Steve Pait is the Momentum Man! - 6/14/14
How important is momentum and timing when it comes to winning a poker tournament? Just ask Jay Wiley, who landed in second place during the June competition. Jay found himself dominated a few times but luck landed on his side in what looked like a sure June victory.
At the money bubble, Jay called Irish Steve's all-in with A/Q only to be up against A/K. A queen on the flop ended the hand and guaranteed the cash for the final five. Bonnie Edens found herself on the wrong side of the momentum curve when her 8/8 fell to Steve Shuffleboy Pait's 7/7 when a 7 landed in the window. Jay showed Bonnie the door when they both showed A/Q only to have the board deal a flush to Jay's diamonds.
It looked like Jay was going to take the top spot, but Steve Pait proved to have the most momentum of the night. At one point, players mentioned that Steve didn't even have a red $5,000 plaque but he managed to overcame the chip deficit and take down the victory.
